Tales from the Pump Room. Nine Hundred Years of Bath
Description
Tales from the Pump Room. Nine Hundred Years of Bath: the place, its people, and its gossip by Thomas Hinde. No city in Britain has a history like Bath's. Others have exploited their mineral waters - Bristol, Buxton and Tunbridge Wells, for example - and many have been holiday resorts, but none has ever been the country's alternative capital as Bath was for almost a hundred years, a place to which a large part of society came annually and just about everyone who was anybody visited at least once. Bath had two great periods, the first of these in Roman times. The remains of Roman Bath can be seen today more clearly than ever before: its great bathing complex and the nearby temple to the goddess Minerva. Bath was a Roman spa for several hundreds of years, between the first and fourth centuries AD. The dust jacket has light general wear and the book remains in a very tidy condition.
