After some years of wandering in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, James Rutherford joined the company which took over Cobb and Co., when the Cobb brothers returned to America after having made a fortune in seven years. James Rutherford was general manager of the new company. One of his first decisions was to extend the line to New South Wales and eventually it went to Queensland. "Follow the Gold" was his moto.
