Description

Classic Travel Stories. Introduction by Fiona Pitt-Kethley. From the earliest times Man has travelled and come back with wonderful stories of his adventures. In prehistoric days, these narratives passed by word of mouth and thus many interesting tales were lost. With the invention of alphabets travel-writing came into being. Many of the journeys described in this book were embarked upon with a clear sense of purpose. The authors were very rarely tourists or holiday makers. Some of the earliest narratives - that from an Egyptian papyrus and Xenophon, for instance - described the travel of warriors. Light staining on the front covers and bumps to the top of the spine but overall tight and bright.
