Heartland
Description
Heartland. Text by Gary McCormick. Photographs by John McDermott. "New Zealand communities do not expect things to be perfect - they simply expect them to be," ruminates Gary McCormick, as he looks out the window of Room 326 of the Parkroyal Hotel in Wellington. And so begins an exploration of what makes different communities in New Zealand unique and yet intrinsic part of our national identity. As McCormick ambles through his experiences on the road, in his various guises of surfie, travelling poet, support act for rock bands, presenter on the Holiday program and the Heartland television series, he encounters Kiwis as seemingly disparate as the Rastafarians of the East Cape and the well-heeled residents of Fendalton, in Christchurch. His observations, coupled with John McDermott's powerful photographs, combine to paint vivid and farreaching images of the essence of our heartland, underscored by comments from residents of the communities featured in the television series.' The book has light general wear and remains tight and bright. A VERY LARGE BOOK THAT WILL REQUIRE ADDITIONAL FREIGHT.
