The Skipper's Diary : Walter A. Hadlee (Signed)
Description
The Skipper's Diary : Walter A. Hadlee, Captain of the New Zealand 1949 Cricket Tour of England 'The Forty-Niners'. Compiled and edited by Sir Richard Hadlee. "This book was conceived in June 2014. I was at the time travelling to different parts of the world accompanying the 'Cricket World Cup', helping create awareness about New Zealand co-hosting the event with Australia. I arrived in Trinidad to see New Zealand play the West Indies at Queen's Park. During my brief stay, I had dinner with Jan Henderson, the New Zealand High Commissioner, and the New Zealand radio commentator, Bryan Waddle. We were talking cricket and touring. I happened to mention to Bryan that I had Dad's diary of New Zealand's 1949 tour of England. "You should get the diary published," Bryan suggested. "Many people would be interested in reading about that tour, which was significant in the history of our game." Over a period of 12 months I read the skipper's diary, literally with a magnifying glass, as his writing was very small and on some days he wrote a lot. There were queries to solve and in compiling the book I analysed the tour. The end result is 'The Skipper's Diary'. - Sir Richard Hadlee from the fly leaf of this book. The dust jacket has light general wear and the book has a bump on the front bottom corner but overall a tight and bright copy. The book is signed (with a personal inscription) by Sir Richard. A VERY LARGE BOOK THAT WILL REQUIRE ADDITIONAL FREIGHT.
