The first volume, edited by Dan Davin, drew on stories published before 1952, a period of beginnings and hesitancies, but also the years which included the rich maturity of Katherine Mansfield, and the promise, as well as the fulfilment, of Frank Sareson. C. K. Stead's sequel to Davin covered the ground of only thirteen more years, but added almost twenty new writers.' The book has light to medium general wear with a name cut out on the top corner of the inside page but overall a tight and bright copy.
