Better than Boot Camp. Youth: Yesterday and Today by Ewing C. Stevens. Ewing Stevens has been a talkback host with Radio Pacific since the foundation of the ststion in 1979. Born in Invercargill in 1926 the son of Emily (Bunty) and Colin Stevens, he attended the Wallacetown School and then matriculated from the Southland Technical High School in 1944. After schooldays Ewing became a pharmacy apprentice with Bob Pollock, Chemist, in Invercargill. Ever since, he has had an interest in health. His career in pharmacy was interrupted by five years recovering from TB in Waipiata Sanatorium in Central Otago. After his recovery he trained as a TB nurse.It was while in the Sanatorium that he decided to train for the ministry of the Presbyterian Church. This he did at Knox Theological College in Dunedin after achieving hi BA at Otago University. His great grandfather, the Rev Andrew Stevens, had been a pioneer Presbyterian Minister in Southland during the 1900's. It was while he was training for the Ministry that he began his broadcasting experience in 1956 with 4XD Dundedin.'
