Jack in the Pulpit. An autobiography. the author, J. S. Somerville of Dunedin, New Zealand, has had a distinguished career as a minister of the Presbyterian Church and in political and University affairs. He went from the parish of Tapanui to serve as chaplin with the 19th Regiment in Italy, where he was present throughout the Battle of Monte Cassino. He was minister of St Andrew's, The Terrace, Wellington, for 16 politically and socially eventful years. There he was all things to people, from the humblest parishioner to Prime Ministers and Governors - General. He has been Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, Master of Knox College, Dunedin, and Chancellor of the University of Otago. In this illustrated autobiography, J. S. Somerville comments on the events of his time and pays warm tribute to his many friends.
