N. Z. R. Album
Description
N. Z. R. Album by R. J. McGavin.'As the 1960s come to a close, many New Zealanders are finding that the clouds of smoke once synonymous with the word "railway" are being replaced by less visible exhausts and very different sounds. To many people, the "railway" means choking tunnels, dark red seats, and refreshment-room "bun fights". To others it brings memories of battles between locomotive and grade, spectacular exhaust, the warm glow of the firebox, flashing rods, and a tradition of fine engineering. In this booklet, it is not my aim to provide a perfectly balanced portrait of evey aspect of New Zealand Railways. Rather I have sort to present those aspects which I have found most attractive, and which have commanded the greatest amount of attention. This involves the moods and expressions of locomotives and train, and the environment of the railways." From the Foreword of this little book.
