The Works of Oscar Wilde 1856 - 1900
Description
The Works of Oscar Wilde 1856 - 1900. New Collected Edition, 1948 Edited by G. F. Maine. 'Wilde is one of those literary figures who arouse both interest and antagonism, but it will not be denied that he gave life and vitality to his age. There seemed no end to his diverse and coruscating genius, and those who heard him converse found it an unforgettable experience. This we can not do, but here within the compass of a single volume is nearly everything he wrote - The Stories, the well known Plays with in addition Salome, The Duchess of Padua, Vera, A Florentine Tragedy and La Sainte Courtisane; the Poems, including Poems in Prose; the Essays, including De Proundis, The Soul of Man under Socialism, The Rise of Historical Criticism, The Portrait of Mr. W. H. certain letters, and the whimsical Phrases and Philosophies for the Use of the Young.' The dust jacket has much wear with small tears and scuffing along the edges. The book has binding reinforcement tape on the inside back of the book but overall a most readable book. Previous owners name or inscription on inside front page.
