The Stewart Islanders
Description
The Stewart Islanders by Olga Sansom. ' Island people are commonly sea-salted, self-reliant, adventurous, self-sufficient, independent and individual, yet quick to help each other when the need arises. The Stewart Islanders have all these qualities in double quantity, for they have been not only conditioned by the island environment but, Maori and Pakeha alike, they are so often descended from island forbears, Polynesian or Orkney, or form the sea-coast of Europe. Olga Sansom is herself a Stewart Islander and grew up in its tradition. She knew its old people and remembers them gratefully and with love. The dust jacket has a small chip on the top edge of the spine and a large tape repair on the back. Now covered by clear Mylar. The book has light general wear but remains in a very tidy condition.
